In short: The Launch X431 PRO5 is a 10.1-inch diagnostic tablet for workshops that need more than standard vehicle diagnostics and also want to perform programming and coding. What sets it apart from simpler tablets is the SmartLink C 2.0: it supports DoIP and CAN FD and also works as a J2534 interface for OEM software. Two years of Launch software updates are included.

- only occasionally read fault codes and reset service intervals – a smaller diagnostic tool will be sufficient
- do not plan to use OEM access and will never need J2534

What the PRO5 can do in everyday workshop use
The foundation is full-system diagnostics: access to all available control units, fault codes, live data and actuator tests. With bidirectional tests, you can activate components directly instead of replacing parts based on guesswork. The PRO5 also provides common service functions, from oil reset to battery registration, depending on the vehicle.
The PRO5 becomes particularly interesting when working on modern vehicles and more advanced jobs. Online coding and programming can be performed directly from the tablet, provided Launch supports the function for the specific brand, model and region. For procedures that require OEM software, the SmartLink C 2.0 acts as a J2534 bridge between your laptop running the manufacturer’s software and the vehicle. In addition to DoIP and CAN FD, the interface also supports RP1210 and D-PDU.

- J2534 programmingRequires the respective manufacturer’s OEM software and a valid license or subscription. Neither is included in the package and both are usually subject to additional fees.
- Online codingNot available for every brand or in every region. For a specific job, we recommend checking compatibility using the VIN before purchase.
- UpdatesTwo years of software updates are included from the date of activation. After that, a paid renewal is required to receive new vehicle coverage and software updates.

What happens after two years?
The device will continue to work with the last installed software version. To receive support for new vehicles, software versions and functions, you can renew the update subscription.
