TOPDON Tornado120000 – Power Supply for ECU Programming and 12V Battery Charger

Anyone who has ever seen a programming procedure fail at 60 percent knows why a device like this is essential. During coding and flashing, control units, cooling fans and lighting systems can remain active for long periods with the ignition switched on. A standard battery charger may not be able to keep up, causing the vehicle voltage to drop – and in the worst case, leaving the control unit unusable.

The TOPDON Tornado120000 (T120A) delivers up to 120 A and 1,700 W with an adjustable voltage range from 11 to 16.8 V. This keeps the vehicle electrical system stable even under high current demand, for example during programming on BMW or Mercedes-Benz vehicles. Outside programming sessions, it functions as a fully capable 12V battery charger for lead-acid and lithium batteries.

Which Mode Is Used for What?

• Lithium ModeCharges 12V lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries

Supported battery types: Wet, Gel, MF, EFB, AGM, CAL, VRLA and LiFePO4, with capacities from 20 to 3,700 Ah.

Charging with Detailed Reports

In battery mode, the Tornado charges in nine stages. Current and voltage can be adjusted in real time, while the dot-matrix display shows power, voltage and current.

Using USB and TOPDON PC software, you can export a charging report after each session containing the operating mode, energy consumption, charging time, as well as initial and final voltage. This is particularly useful when you want to document the battery condition for your customer.

Good to Know

• Automatic Shut-Off When DisconnectedExcept in power supply mode, the device automatically switches off the output when the battery is disconnected. This is a safety feature and cannot be disabled.
• Set the Cable LengthThe length of the output cable used can be configured in the “Output Cable” menu. If the cable is replaced, this setting should be adjusted accordingly.
• 12V OnlyThe Tornado120000 is designed for 12V vehicle electrical systems. 24V commercial vehicles are not supported.

Eight Protection Functions

Protection against overheating, input undervoltage, overload, defective battery, short circuit, overvoltage, reverse polarity and device faults – plus spark protection when connecting the battery clamps.
