What Is a Security Gateway – and Why Do I Need an Activation?
An increasing number of vehicle manufacturers use a Security Gateway to control access to security-relevant control units. Without authorization, the gateway may allow only read access, while write functions can be restricted or blocked.

- Stable internet connection while working on the vehicle
- Correct serial number and account information
- Any additional manufacturer or platform requirements
Verify your exact device model, serial number and Autel account. After activation, a digital license is generally linked to the corresponding device and account and normally cannot be transferred.
Compatibility and Available Functions
The availability of SGW access varies depending on the vehicle manufacturer, model, model year, control unit, region, software version and the requirements of the respective platform provider.
An SGW activation provides authorized access through the Security Gateway. It does not expand the diagnostic capabilities of the diagnostic tool itself. The coding, programming and service functions available still depend on the vehicle and the diagnostic software supported by the Ultra S2.
